Item Description:

TAYLOR MONOPLANE N2531

Robert Ladd started building this plane in 1967. She was lovingly referred to as “Chihuahua”, being named after the couples’ Mexican puppy. The original design was by John Taylor, who had designs for the Taylorcraft and the Piper J3 cub. The Wing span is 21’, and the length is 15’. The plane is powered by a modified VW engine. Over the years, Mr. Ladd modified his original airplane. Modifications include a full hand blown bubble canopy, and retractable landing gear. Besides being written up in four or five issues of the EAA Sport Aviation magazine and the cover picture 6th edition of the EAA Data Book for Homebuilders, ‘Chihuahua’ was featured in a Volkswagen ad in Life Magazine in 1968.The first flight after Robert finished building this plane was made by Paul Poberezny, the founder of EAA. We acquired this aircraft form Mr. & Mrs. Ladd on May 28, 2000. It was transported back to Fond du Lac by museum personnel.
